DESCRIPTION:
Acrylic and oil on canvas board
8 X 6 in
2024
BIO:
Lisa Knoop is an interdisciplinary artist whose work delves into themes of transformation, the immaterial, communal ties, and the interplay between the individual and the natural world. Born in a school bus in Tennessee and raised in nature as part of a large social experiment, her unconventional upbringing informs her desire to use light and color to evoke a sense of the intangible, searching for connection across the divide, across (manmade) borders and lines drawn by those who have the power and who often do not have to suffer the reality of the wars they make. Her artwork is born from a fascination with these edges, the places where one thing dissolves into another; land into sea, sea into air, clouds into sky and light into dark. Lisa studied art and art history at UC Santa Cruz and has continued independent studies under her mentors and artists Rose Shakinovsky and Claire Gavronsky (known collectively as rosenclaire) in both Italy and South Africa. She holds dual BA’s in Fine Art and Psychology. Knoop has exhibited her work in the US and abroad, and her work is held in private collections internationally.
