BIO:

Amey Mathews is an interdisciplinary artist who lives and works in Santa Cruz, CA. She is interested in questions of human-animal intimacy; questions about compassion and how to move in the direction of clarity; questions of tenderness; questions of sitting with the unknown/unknowable. Her work for this sale focuses on the symbolism of the olive tree – which has great meaning for the people of both Palestine and Israel, and is a symbol of peace, shared roots, and growth.

Amey is particularly inspired by her devotion to Yoga, which she has been studying, practicing, and teaching since the 1990s. She received her undergraduate degree in Painting and Printmaking from Stanford University in 1995. Since first meeting Rose Shakinovsky and Claire Gavronsky (known collectively as Rosenclaire) in 1994, Mathews has completed many artist residencies and courses with them, both in Italy and the United States.
