BIO:
Jeff Waites studied figurative painting, art history, theory, gilding and fresco restoration at Lorenzo de’ Medici in Florence, Italy where he first met the innovative artists and educators Rose Shakinovsky and Claire Gavronsky (rosenclaire). Jeff earned a BFA at UNC Chapel Hill and an MFA at MECA in Portland, Maine. His painting and thesis research were inspired by several large-scale exhibition projects, site-specific installation works and his MFA studio advisor, artist Whitfield Lovell. Following graduate studies, Jeff continued developing installation works and curatorial collaborations with artist and professor Elin Slavick in North Carolina and Maine where he taught curatorial practices and served as the director of the ICA at MECA. Jeff has exhibited in numerous group and solo shows in the U.S. and attended several residencies in Italy with rosenclaire who continue to influence his life and art practice.
