BIO:
Caroline Maxwell was born in 1974 in Los Angeles, USA. She received a B.A. and M.A. in Art History from California State University Northridge, and an M.F.A. in Studio Art from Claremont Graduate University. As an artist, Caroline Maxwell works with many mediums, from painting, to photographic processes, and many experimental materials in-between. She prefers thinking through one’s hands, senses, and materials, leaving behind the primacy of language in our encounters with the world and in how we access knowledge. In addition to her practice as an artist, Caroline Maxwell has been a professor of art history, and she teaches art and photography to high school students. She has taught everything from prehistoric art history to contemporary theory, and she finds that both her teaching and her background in art history are an inseparable part of her own art making.
