This drawing stems from a father-daughter trip with my father, joined by Russ Mittermeier and his daughter. It portrays a Giant Anteater, a species native to the Pantanal in Brazil, and its title reflects the meaning of our time together. The Giant Anteater is an insect-eating mammal, the largest of the four living anteater species, all closely related to sloths within the order Pilosa. With its elongated snout and sweeping tail, the anteater is uniquely adapted to its environment. Its home, the Pantanal, is the world’s largest tropical wetland and flooded grassland. Stretching across Brazil, Bolivia, and Paraguay, this vast ecosystem sustains extraordinary biodiversity and remains one of the most vital and expansive conservation landscapes in the Americas. This work is a favorite of mine. - Haley Mellin
