The work Neon Sky II is a reference to the experience of viewing our small city from my parents’ bedroom window when I was a child during the 1960s in Durban, South Africa, a reference to both actual event as well as a musing on the perception of light as dramatic and thrilling.

BIO

Josephine Grindrod lives and works in Cape Town. Grindrod is interested in the imagination as a realm allowing both personal and social transformation. A long-time Rosenclaire student, Grindrod also holds an MA in Visual Studies (University of Stellenbosch, 2006), an Advanced Diploma in Painting, and a BA in Fine Arts (University of Cape Town, 1987, 1984). She is a PhD candidate in Visual History at the University of the Western Cape. She has participated in group shows and held a number of solo exhibitions, the most recent being Small Fables at Everard Read Cubicle, Cape Town, 2025. Her work is held in local and international private collections and by the University of Cape Town.
