The fragment, or the small, which holds within it the potential of the complete or whole, has always held my interest and attention. Bringing attention to the torn and shorn, shards and shreds, pieces, slivers, bits, chips, particles, wisps, morsels, flakes, and margins offers me a sense of something I can’t quite pin down—maybe because the imagined whole remains fluid, unknowable. There is room and space then for other possibilities. Wisps whisper and suggest. Particles portend. Looking may feel more like listening.
