Another Origin Story - Marcia Teusink

$250.00

DESCRIPTION

Mixed media on panel
26 x 20cm
2024

The artworks I am including here grow out of my research into botanical history as well as contemporary issues of climate change, biodiversity, and resilience. Each is a reflection either on the ways humans have tried to protect plants and organise knowledge about them, or on how these practices were attempts to dominate and contain nature or to display wealth and power. They grow out of research at botanical gardens and herbaria, and particularly from recent workshops with Rosenclaire (The Human Dilemma in particular).

BIO

Marcia Teusink’s practice focuses on the complex and tangled history of people, plants, and other natural materials through painting, video, mixed-media sculpture, and installation. She explores historic human interventions in nature and how these actions impact ecosystems today. Teusink is based in London and has exhibited extensively in the UK, the USA, and Europe. She has shown recently at 195 Mare Street (London), Rome Botanical Gardens (Italy), the Od Arts Festival (West Coker, Somerset), Sluice Expo (Barreiro, PT), Airspace Gallery (Stoke-on-Trent, UK), and Unit 1 Gallery-Workshop (London). Teusink has attended artist residencies at Kala Art Institute (CA, USA), The Studios at MASS MoCA (MA, USA), PADA Studios/Sluice (Barreiro, PT), Unit 1 Gallery-Workshop (London), and Brisons Veor (Cornwall, UK). She has been the recipient of grants from Arts Council England and a-n (The Artists Information Company), and her work is in private collections in Europe and the United States.
